In a quiet little town, nestled between rolling hills and fresh streams, there lived a florist named Meera. Her shop, Petals & Dreams, was more than just a place to buy flowers — it was a sanctuary of fragrance, colour, and warmth.

Every morning, Meera would arrive early, carefully arranging roses, lilies, jasmine, and sunflowers in neat displays. The gentle aroma would drift into the street, drawing in passersby. People loved her creativity, but even more than her skill, they valued her kindness and integrity.

One bright summer morning, a wealthy businessman named Mr. Rajan walked into her shop. His daughter’s wedding was just a week away, and he wanted the most magnificent bouquet she could create — something that would symbolise love, purity, and blessings for the new couple.

“I trust your taste,” he said with a smile. “Make it the best in town.”

He handed her a large envelope of cash. “This should cover everything.” Meera thanked him and promised the bouquet would be ready in time for the big day.

Later that afternoon, after finishing her daily deliveries, Meera sat at her small wooden desk to check the payment. She counted the money carefully — once, then twice. Her heart skipped a beat.

Inside the envelope was ₹5,000 more than the actual cost.

For a moment, she paused. No one would know if she kept the extra money. It could have been a lucky mistake in her favour. She could use it for new shop decorations or to fix the leaky roof.

But her inner voice — the voice of her conscience — whispered, “This money isn’t yours.”

That night, she hardly slept. She thought about her parents, who had taught her the value of honesty since childhood. She remembered her mother’s words:

“Even if no one is watching, do the right thing. That is true integrity.”

The next morning, instead of heading straight to her shop, Meera walked to Mr. Rajan’s office. The receptionist was surprised to see her.

“I’m here to see Mr. Rajan,” Meera said politely.

When Mr. Rajan saw her, he looked curious. “Is something wrong with the order?” he asked.

Meera shook her head and held out the envelope. “Yesterday, you gave me more money than the cost of the bouquet. There’s an extra ₹5,000 here. I wanted to return it to you personally.”

For a moment, Mr. Rajan was silent. Then, a smile spread across his face.

“In today’s world,” he said slowly, “very few people would do this. You’ve not only earned my respect — you’ve earned my trust.”

Word about Meera’s honesty spread quickly through the town. Customers started coming from nearby villages, not just for her flowers, but for the person she was. They knew that with Meera, they would always get fair prices, quality service, and a warm smile.

Her shop began to flourish like never before. She added new arrangements, hired two assistants, and even started hosting flower arrangement workshops for children. But no matter how busy she became, she never forgot the values that had brought her success.

For Meera, the real reward wasn’t the growing business or the extra customers — it was the knowledge that she had stayed true to herself. She had shown that in a world full of shortcuts, integrity is the most beautiful thing a person can offer.

Moral:
Honesty is the most beautiful flower you can offer the world — and it never fades. 🌺
